Some days I like listening to a book more than reading it. In chilly February, where the temperature here barely reached two digits on several days, listening won. I cuddled under a cozy throw with views of the Rocky Mountains, and enjoyed a delightful Scottish mystery written by award winning author, Connie Berry, and narrated by Ruth Urquhart, an award-winning Scottish voice actor.
I chose A Dream of Death: A Kate Hamilton Mystery for three reasons. First, having enjoyed a Country Walkers’ adventure in Scotland years ago, I was captivated by this murder mystery with historical elements set on an isolated Scottish island. Second, I discovered the author from a writing class I was taking and was eager to experience her storytelling. And third, I’ve been looking for a new mystery series with historical elements. I was not disappointed in any of my wants.
A Dream of Death: A Kate Hamilton Mystery is the author’s debut novel and the first in the series. As a history lover, I found the past and present story elements enchanting. But perhaps the best recommendation I can offer is that I finished the book yesterday and immediately purchased the second in the series, which I’m starting tonight.
If you like traditional mysteries, historical elements, and /or unique international settings, I’d recommend A Dream of Death.
